Firearm Permit Class

Open and Concealed Carry Firearm Permit class

If you travel around the mainland and desire the protection of a handgun, you will need to have an Open and/or Concealed Carry Permit from a state that issues a Concealed Carry Permit which is honored by as many other states as possible. The State of Utah issues such a permit (to non-residents as well as Utah residents) and it is honored by 31 other states. (Please note that it is NOT honored by the State of Hawaii)

To acquire a Concealed Carry Permit from Utah you must first complete a required 4-hour firearms/handgun training class. Wayne Holu of Oahu (www.koaservicesinc.com) is a certified trainer (There is no certified trainer on Maui.) and offers the class for a fee of $100 plus a Utah permit fee of $65 making the total cost $165.

Normally, you would have to fly to Oahu to attend the class; however, Wayne is willing to conduct the class here on Maui if he has at least 12 participants. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Lee & Rosemary Aldridge at leealdridge@msn.com.

I’m definitely interested. Also interested in getting the people of Hawai’i a little less uptight about guns.

    Aloha Larry,
Wayne has tentatively scheduled the class on Maui for 10/16. He is really busy until the end of Sept. and we are heading to the mainland and won’t return until end of Sept. so this was the first opportunity for the class. Right now we have about half the number required for the class so hopefully we get another 5 or 6 people interested. Location still to be decided. Just contact us at leealdridge@msn.com so we can keep in touch.
    mahalo,

CHL permit applications are available. I know. I got one several years ago from Maui PD in Kahului.
I never filled it out, though, after learning that permits are never issued.
I wonder if things are different now, after the recent Supreme Court ruling.
I\’m a CHL holder in Oregon.

Why get a Utah ‘carry permit’ that isn’t allowed in Hawaii? Seems like an additional $65. for nothing….unless you plan on moving to Utah! Is the training accepted by Hawaii for a regular fire arm permit?
