Maui Senator Roz Baker Supports Tax Hike, Claims DoE Fraud Not Relevant to School Furloughs

At a meeting of the Kihei Community on November 17, Maui Sen Roz Baker said that in her view there are only three possible solutions to the school furloughs:

1. Raid the State’s Rainy Day Fund,
2. Raid the State’s Hurricane Fund, or
3. Raise Taxes.

Despite the State Auditor’s Report of inefficiency, waste and criminal fraud in the DoE’s Procurement section amounting to tens of millions of dollars, the Maui News reports Baker brushed off suggestions that stopping DoE waste could help with the furloughs. In a typical shell game, she claimed that money saved by stopping DoE’s procurement fraud could not be used for school operations. Senator Baker is apparently claiming that the Legislature, Governor’s Office and the DoE are unable to move monies allocated for procurement to school operations. Realty says otherwise.

At the same meeting, the great majority of community members in attendance were in strong agreement with the commonsense position (and Hawaii TEA Party’s proposal) that we should cut waste and decentralize or eliminate the DoE instead of raising taxes.

  • We must stop the fraud, abuse and furloughing of our children’s futures immediately and permanently. Please join our petition against school furloughs and corruption at http://furloughfridayshelp.com .

Common sense is in short supply. When you need money, you work and earn it. Yes, you need a job to do that. Instead of figuring out how to stimulate jobs, the political class wants to tax us. Hint! Production stimulates income, more income means more revenue. It’s hard times for everybody but the bureaucrats. They need to make cuts and work harder like we do. Oh Yes, I forgot about SEIU labor contracts. They pay there fair share alright, for political campaigns. That is why thousands of people understand what the teaparty is all about. Taxed Enough Already!!

  • Baker is in the pocket of the union – they put her in office, she votes for what they want. The union is running her office, not Baker.

We need to have each Hawaiian county have its very own school district to cut waste. The last figure I was quoted by the department of education was that there are three administrators for every teacher. I am sure if we turned that figure around, it would work out much better for our children.

    Taxed Enough Already!
