I guess a short answer would be: It's just as hard for a TEA Party patriot to truly hold to TEA party core values and principles, and be a republican(if they are not just using the TEA party) as it is for my parents and and some of my family members who were democrats their whole life, and now are fighting to take it back from the progressives.

Ms. Chun-
I applaud the fact that you obviously have an open enough mind to address directly what you believe to be an inconsistency in the ideologies of a TEA Party candidate. However, giving you the benefit of the doubt, I will point out to you that the use of the term “tea bagger” is offensive and not a proper address of a TEA Party member. You see, a “tea bagger” is the vernacular term for a whore who gives blow jobs. It does not take a great deal of imagination to associate the act of oral copulation, with the dunking of a teabag. I’m sure you were unaware of the meaning of the term in its vernacular, and did not intend to insult anyone. Now that you know that it is an insulting descriptor, I’m sure you will not continue to use the term, and I thank you for that in advance.
While I cannot speak directly for Marc Hodges, as a disenfranchised Democrat myself, perhaps I can offer some insights as to how a person can be both a Democrat and a TEA Party member.
When you examine the platforms of the DNC and the RNC, you discover that they are not that dissimilar. Both platforms promote a positive vision for the future of our country, strong and vibrant economy for all, equal opportunity, protection and ability under the law, protection of the environment, education and fair taxation. All of these are laudable, admirable and achievable goals. The platforms are not that different, how these principals can be achieved that the two platforms diverge. Over the years, I have watched both parties fracture into a quagmire of various degrees and ideologies, until the ticket of Democrat and Republican are essentially meaningless (i.e.; conservative or Blue dog Democrats, liberal republicans, libertarians, fundamentalists, progressives, etc.)
I simply cannot support the progressive platform. In the last century we have seen the progressive (communist party as it was originally called, then socialist party, now progressive party), emerge and are rebuffed by the American voting populace on several occasions. The problem seems to be that while the progressive belief of an “enlightened” vision of a utopia, where all persons are equally wealthy and equal governance, the fallacy becomes that there are necessarily two classes, those who rule the individual and the individual who is ruled. Equal redistribution of wealth, just means that everyone (except the ruling class), is equally miserable and without means to improve their circumstances, because they are totally dependent upon and in essence controlled by the government. In my opinion, the progressive movement replaces a belief in God and our individual abilities, with the Government. The failure of this basic concept is that it goes against human nature to think, to believe, aspire and to achieve. Clearly as long as desire and jealousy exist in the human spirit, no such progressive utopia can exist, you cannot legislate or mandate the human mind and heart, you can only beat them into submission. I simply don’t agree that “the collective good” is good for anyone, except the ruling class.
Back to the Parties, at one time I was a registered democrat, but as I saw that the party became increasingly progressive, I became disenfranchised. You see I was raised with a belief in divinity, the individual, and the need to be a part of something bigger than myself. To that end I have endeavored to do no harm to my fellow man, give back to the community thru inspiration and mentorship, community service, and service to my country. I have lived and helped others to achieve the American dream. I have myself, and have watched others rise from the worst of circumstances and conditions to varying degrees of greatness. It was the belief in themselves and their abilities to achieve all that they desired in this great country of ours, which furthered their achievements. Had the Democrats stayed on track, and not become so progressive, interfering and taxacious, I would not have left the party. I have watched my children struggle to achieve, achieve, lose, and struggle again, to achieve the dream. Frankly, I blame the Democrats and their increasingly progressive policies, which constantly work against the individual’s goals. The message has been lost, and the barriers erected.
I am equally disenchanted with the Republican Party. Currently there is a lack of leadership and clarity that disturbs me. They themselves became progressive in their spending, regulatory and social policies. Their message and platform was also clearly lost. “All it takes for tyranny to prosper is that good men do nothing.” They seem to be doing a great deal of nothing. In contrast to “collective” theologies, they should be defining a clear path to individual prosperity and achievement, individual liberty and opportunity, individual salvation and individual responsibility.
I would much rather believe in myself than the government. In my life, the government has proven to have a dismal record of achievement, and fails miserably 99.99% of the time. We are seeing this play out now in our economy, government intervention has done more harm than good. We are now looking at (the very least) a severe second recession, and (at the most) possibly a depression. FDRs failed policies all over again.
Enter the TEA Party. I was drawn to the TEA Party because I felt disenfranchised from both parties. As it turns out, so were millions of others. It is not an issue of party, rather (for me,) an issue of clarity. It’s about getting back to basics, having a clear and simple path, defined, Constitutional and limited government and the promotion of the individual to succeed. With these good basic and simple core values, all the rest will come. It’s about making it happen and not about pointing fingers.
What’s the difference between a Democrat, a Republican and a TEA Party member? Not much, we all have a deep love for our country and want to have a society where all can succeed; we just have different ideas on how to make that happen. I know this was a little long, but I hope its helps you to understand how a Democrat can also be a TEA Party member.

Explain to me how Marc Hodges can call himself a Democrat when he is also a Teabagger.

2010 Maui Democratic Platform:

"We recognize that the capacity of government is limited but we regard democratic government as a force for good and a source of hope.

At the heart of our party lies a fundamental conviction, that Americans must not only be free, but they must live in a fair society. We believe it is the responsibility of government to help us achieve this fair society."

"economic justice for working families is essential for the realization of a democratic society"

"The environment is the public trust and care of our “commons” is one principal of social justice. We must prevent the unsustainable exploitation that will damage our common resources and have a negative impact on the economic benefits of a healthy ecosystem(s)."

"A society where taxes are clearly based on ability to pay"

"A society where the elderly and the disabled can lead lives of dignity, where Social Security remains an unshakable public commitment and affordable health care is available to all citizens"

Does Hodges believe in these things or does he follow the Tea Party line. If so, what's he doing as a registered Democrat?

Having worked in the inner-cities (Los Angeles)for 23 years, I can attest to every point made in this article. There are no cheap tomatoes, ILLEGAL aliens are bankrupting our country(entitlements in medical housing and taxes), and if we stop handing out the entitlements hand over fist, Americans will work at any job.

Without a doubt the DOE is long overdue for an audit, I would love to know where that billion+ yearly budget goes, and lets not forget all the additional federal funds that they get. After a full audit is completed and published, there is no doubt in my that the folks would be so angry about the funds wasted and misdirected, that the DOE could easily be abolished. I would rather see the money sucked into oblivion by the DOE go directly to the schools, supplies for the students and teachers salaries any day. It makes me absouletly crazy that parents suffering in this economy, struggling to put food on the table, have to pony up for school supplies that should already be in place in the schools for students. I heard on the news that students in Honolulu even had to bring packs of toilet paper to school this year! Enough is enough, the DOE is a dragon that need to be slayed!
